2008 Election Engagement - Indiana Campus Successes
Indiana had a mid-September state-wide networking event with 45 campuses, and an election-related website section that drew 1750 hits from schools looking for resources. They helped schools like Indiana State set up on-campus satellite voting centers, and helped Indiana University Bloomington register 11,000 new voters through several weeks of election related activities, including a Battle of the Bands right before the registration deadline. University of Southern Indiana held a “Debate-a-Palooza” that drew 550 people to their on the campus mall. Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana – Bloomington hosted a Rock the Vote tour, the first time RTV had visited an Indiana Community College. Indiana Compact helped with all these efforts and also sent out specific guidelines to meet Indiana’s new and far more restrictive voter ID laws. They played a major role furnishing accurate information to schools throughout the state.
